Edward A. Jacobson, P.A., Attorney At Law

Edward A. Jacobson handles probate matters in the Lakeland and west central Florida area.  He also offers his services in the drafting of last wills and testaments, living wills and powers of attorney.

Estate Administration:
When a person dies with or without a will, his or her real and personal property may have to be administered through the probate process depending on the size of his or her estate.  Typically, the personal representative of the estate may hire an attorney to assist in handling the administration and distribution of the estate assets.

Last will and testament:
An individual usually executes a last will and testament to ensure that the assets of his or her estate are distributed according to his or her wishes rather than according to the succession designated by Florida statute.

Living will:
A living will is executed to express a person’s preferences regarding the extent of medical intervention desired during the person’s final illness.  The living will usually designates another person to help carry out the preferences of the maker of the living will.

Power of Attorney:
An individual, during his or her lifetime, can grant a general durable power of attorney to another individual so that the attorney-in-fact may act on behalf of the grantor of the power of attorney in all matters, including business decisions and medical decisions.  The legal guardianship process can be avoided if a person who has become incompetent previously executed a general durable power of attorney.
